The DOINA Foundation
for
Romanian Ethnography and Folklore
The DOINA Foundation was
created in Rotterdam in 1983 and has as its main aim the promotion of Romanian
culture in the whole world. We consider it a major advantage that ethnic
Romanians play a major role in the management of the Foundation. They are well
accustomed to the Romanian mentality and to the appropriate way of dealing with
all kinds of matters. They visit Romania very frequently and are continually
establishing direct contacts with various folk groups, carefully following their
evolution. A selection of the DOINA activities include:
- Organizing dance and cultural tours to
Romania during holiday periods.
We can also organize such tours during other periods, precisely tailored to
your requirements.
- Mediating for the twinning of villages and
cities in Romania with villages and cities abroad.
- Acting as an intermediary for cultural
exchanges between various organizations in Europe and folklore groups in
Romania (folk dance ensembles, folk music groups, choirs, etc.). The DOINA
Foundation is very selective and acts as an intermediary only for groups of
high artistic quality. Collaboration in this field has been particularly
fruitful in recent years.
- Teaching of authentic folk dances.
- Producing choreographies for performing
groups.
- Organizing Romanian festivals.
- Participating in the organization of the
yearly Balkan Festival in Zetten (The Netherlands), every last weekend of
June.
- Organizing exhibitions of Romanian
ethnography and folk art.
- Publishing, importing and distributing books,
CD's, folklore costumes, dancing-boots and original Romanian musical
instruments.
- Supplying selective data about Romanian
ethnography and folklore (books, records, slides, photos, etc.)
