Delyan Demirev

Born in 1963 in Slavjanovo, Pleven region, north Bulgaria.

Delyan's passion for dancing started in his home town of Slavjanovo. He danced for many years in one of the one of the top amateur groups in Pleven called the "Druzhba ensemble", which gave performances in France, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Russia, and Poland.

Delyan studied for 5 years at the Plovdiv Academy to be a choreographic director (folkloric dance masters course). After completing his studies he was the Director of the young and dynamic dance group Nastroenie which included singers, musicians and dancers from the towns of Levski and Pavlikeni in the Pleven region. With this group Delyan toured Germany, Russia and Turkey and won various regional and national dance and music competitions. He then became a professional dance teacher with the Severnjaški ensemble of northern Bulgaria. He is now teaching childrens groups in Slavjanovo, Levski and Pavlikeni with a view to encouraging the continuation of Bulgaria's dance traditions.

Delyan has taught many times in the UK in 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, and 2000, at London, Oxford, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Bristol, Cambridge, Winchester, and Arnside,  and at the Society of International Folk Dancing summer school in 1994 & 1998. He has arranged visits to the Koprivshtitsa festival in 1991, 1995, 2000 and 2005, and has taught folk dances courses run in conjunction with these tours. He has also taught in Israel (Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem) in  1996 and in Varna for a Bulgarian Dance Seminar for Israeli dancers in 2004.
