Women's costume from county of Bistriţa-Năsăud

Description

Gathered neck linen chemise (cămaşă încreţită) with open ended sleeves. It has dense embroidery on the sleeves in brown and black geometric patterns (tablă),  and a square inset at the neck decorated with the same embroidery. A narrow row of black crochet lace is attached to the sleeve edges.  (Similar embroidery patterns can be seen here)

The underskirt (poale) has a row of co-ordinating embroidery above the hem., and vertical rows of embroidery on the sides.

Front and back aprons (catrinţe) made of a single width of woven felted wool. The front apron is maroon with two black woven horizontal stripes decorated with multicoloured floral embroidery on the lower part, and a  row of green and brown crochet lace on the hem. The back apron has horizontal woven stripes in pink, brown, blue  and purple with two rows of matching multicoloured floral embroidery on the lower part, and a  row of green and brown crochet lace on the hem

Narrow woven fabric belt (brâu) woven in red, blue and black stripes.
