The Csárdás represents the new style of Hungarian dancing which appeared around the mid 18th century. It is a blend of the fashionable dances of this time and folk dances from the Slovak and Romanians living within the old Hungarian Empire. The Csárdás has replaced the older dance forms in Transylvania's Hungarian communities. This is most evident in the regions of Kalotaszeg and Székelyföld.
